Jurassic Coast

1 Country - 5 Days

LONDON – LONDON 5 DAY EXCURSION
True to its name, the magnificent Jurassic Coast covers 185 million years of history. We’ll explore the coastline and the towns that line its shores, on a boat cruise from Poole to Swanage and a heritage steam train journey to the village of Corfe. As for the rest of our stay, we’ll tour Sir Walter Raleigh’s grand Sherborne Castle and drive through the New Forest to Beaulieu, home to one of the country’s best motor museums.

DAY 1 – LONDON – BOURNEMOUTH

LONDON - BOURNEMOUTH
Pick up from your hotel and transfer to Bournemouth. Enjoy some sight-seeing around Bournemouth before being dropped off at your accommodation for the night.

DAY 2 – BOURNEMOUTH - CORFE
JURASSIC COAST – SWANAGE - CORFE
Spend today at the eastern most stretch of the Jurassic coast, starting with a cruise from Poole’s historic quayside to Swanage. The route takes us past Brownsea Island, the beaches of Studland Bay and a fossil-strewn landscape which ends abruptly at dramatic sea cliffs. We have a little spare time before a 10-minute walk to Swanage Railway station, for a scenic six-mile journey aboard a heritage steam train to Corfe. This beautiful, ancient village is best known for its great stone castle.

DAY 3 – SHERBORNE CASTLE
CORFE - SHERBORNE
Sir Walter Raleigh acquired the old Sherborne Castle in 1552 and, after attempts to modernise it, decided to build an alternative home in its grounds. The original castle was reduced to ruin after the Civil War but Raleigh’s impressive turret-topped house remained. It was extended and remodeled by subsequent owners, used as a hospital during the First World War and requisitioned by the army in the Second World War. Today it reflects 400 years of English history in decoration, art and furniture. The glorious gardens are of equally impressive importance, with 30 acres of sweeping lawns and herbaceous borders, a 50-acre lake and 1,000 acres of parkland that have hardly altered since Capability Brown shaped it (this was one of his first commissions).

DAY 4 – BEAULIEU
BEAULIEU
We take a drive through the beautiful New Forest to Beaulieu. World-famous Beaulieu National Motor Museum offers a comprehensive insight into motoring, from the earliest motor carriages to cultural classics, Grand Prix greats and future automotive design ideas. More than 250 vehicles are on display, including favourites from TV and films, with a section dedicated to ‘Top Gear’ and the cars which met a crumpled end trying to complete their challenges. Beaulieu Palace House is a more sedate place to explore. Starting life as a medieval gatehouse, it is a fine example of Victorian grandeur, with Gothic character, family treasures and exhibitions on the prominent Montagu family. The Abbey Domus houses a fascinating look at medieval monastic life and the beautiful gardens include a Victorian kitchen garden, a fragrant Victorian flower garden and an informal wilderness garden.

DAY  5 – BEAULIEU - LONDON
SIGHT-SEEING
Today we make our way back to London with some beautiful sights along the way.
